In support of scholars conducting innovative research in Solid State Physics, Crystallography, and Crystal and Structural Chemistry, Yurii Simonov Memorial Foundation and Institute of Applied Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova are pleased to announce a Call for Papers for its inaugural Yurii Simonov Memorial Prize, which includes monetary prize of 1000 USD.

Yurii Simonov played a crucial role in the developing of crystallography in Moldova, being associated with the Laboratory of physical methods of solid-state investigations of the Institute of Applied Physics. Fifty years of his life were increasingly and fruitfully dedicated to research. His contribution to structural studies of coordination, organic and supramolecular compounds was outstanding. About 600 scientific papers were published in internationally recognized journals; still more than six hundred were presented as abstracts of conferences and reports in local journals. His scientific activity extended across national borders, he established and developed cooperation with chemists, physicists and crystallographers in many countries in Europe, North America, Asia.

Final Entries will be reviewed by the Selection Jury:

Sergei M. Aldoshin - Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Director of Chemical Physics Institute of RAS, Chairman of the RAS Scientific Center in Chernogolovka, Head of Structural Chemistry Laboratory of RAS.

Ernest Arushanov - is a Soviet and Moldovan experimental physicist, academician of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. He was colleague and friend of Yurii Simonov. He taught at University of Konstanz, Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, and at the University of Paris. He is author of about 140 research papers.

Maria Gdaniec   - a Polish chemist and crystallographer, collaborated closely with Yurii Simonov for nearly 20 years. Chairman of Polish Committee of Crystallography, Professor and Head of the Department of Crystallography at Adam Mickiewicz University in PoznaÅ„.

Victor Kravtsov - experimental physicist. Graduated from the Physical Department of the Moscow State University, 1975, Ph.D. in crystallography and crystal physics, 1982. After Yurii Simonov death, he is at the helm of the Laboratory of Physical Methods of Solid State Investigation "T.I. Malinowski" of the Institute of Applied Physics, Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Author of more than 170 refereed publications and 6 patents.

Janusz Lipkowski - Corresponding member of Polish Academy of Sciences, Honorary Member of Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Chairman of Polish Committee of Chemistry, Head of Department of Physical Chemistry of Supramolecular Complexes at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of Polish Academy of Sciences.
